Another budget gimmick that will hurt you!

Although it is a new year in Sacramento, the Governor and Legislature are facing the same severe budget shortfalls as in the last several.  Again, as in past years, there lacks the political will to make the necessary fundamental changes to get our fiscal house in order.  Instead, Legislators offer up quick fixes or band-aid approaches.  The latest one could negatively affect agents and brokers around the State.

 A budget proposal is being considered that would require all businesses to withhold 3% of payment to independent contractors and submit the tax to the Employment Development Department.  No more waiting until the end of the year to prepare your return, factoring in income as well as expenses to determine your tax No, the State needs all your money right now. Some might characterize this as an interest free loan to California. No other State does this.
